My Top Six Picks for Poolside Snacking
And a reminder to always bring your own olive oil, maldon, and lemon
We are beach-bound babeeee, and I can barely make myself sit still enough to compile this list, but I’m here for you, reader (at least until I put up my OOO message), and your waterside snacking needs. Whether I’m splashing in the waves at Emerald Isle or watching my kids spring off the diving board at our local pool, these are the top six snacks I keep in my big bag of tricks because all that not doing anything can make a girl feel positively famished.
My Top Six Picks for Poolside Snacking

When I want a snack that’s a little bit more substantial, I turn to the tins, and not just tinned fish (though that’s coming too). These tinned dolmas have an earthy flavor from the grape leaves and a bright, citrusy rice filling. I like to drizzle a little of the good olive oil on top just to keep things extra slippery, and yes, I do bring my own olive oil to the pool.
This is one of the few times that a PR person sent me a product that ended up being a forever favorite, and now I buy these crunchy little fava bean snacks by the case. I’m partial to the chile lime flavor, which is sharp and punchy, but there’s also a tangy Salt & Vinegar that’s pretty great and a Wasabi & Ginger variety that I don’t fuck w/ at all. Protein girlies, these have a very decent 7g of protein per 28g serving (not bad!).
Ines Rosales Sweet Olive Oil Tortas
As my friend and regular pool companion, Meg, regularly bemoans, I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but a day by the water will usually leave me wanting a little something sweet, and when it does (if there’s not an ice cream stand nearby), I reach for these crunchy tortas with just a hint of sweetness. They pair beautifully with cheese, especially a funky goat cheese situation, but they’re also perfect on their own.
Canned Sardines with Lemon and Olive Oil
My six-year-old isn’t quite as obsessed with food as myself or her older sibling, but she does go bonkers for sardines, and these are her favorites. Though they already have lemon right in the tin, she likes to add a squeeze of fresh lemon and serve them on Saltines.
Kerrygold Dubliner Cheese Snacks
We love an easy cheese snack, and nutty, crumbly Dubliner is one of my all-time most beloved cheeses, so I was tickled when I found these individually-wrapped snacks at Whole Foods. No, they are not the most eco-friendly choice because of the extra packaging, but they make my life a little easier and my snacktime a little more pleasant, and sometimes that’s the choice I make!
Happy snacking!
